If you are running PPC and only offer your services to a specific area/location/town/city, are you making use of negative keywords by filtering out irrelevant traffic where the search terms include the names of towns and cities outside your service area? If not, you should be.
Whilst recently working on a clients PPC account who only offers their service to the Norwich/Norfolk/East Anglia area, we created an extensive list of towns and cities to use as negative keywords, by doing this, it allows our client to capture broader traffic that doesn’t include their local terms but ensures that their ads are not triggered with searches that include towns, cities, counties and countries that the client would not travel to for work.

Remember to configure your keyword match types when importing your desired keywords into your campaign, for example many place names are more than one word, ensure these are set to negative phrase match, or else you could end up losing wanted traffic if you serve an area that includes part of another place in it’s name, places starting St. are a classic example.
